From Dentistry to Quality Assurance: A Journey into the World of Testing

In this article, I want to share my journey from envisioning a career in dentistry to finding my true calling as a Quality Assurance (QA) tester in the field of Information Technology (IT). Over the course of two years, I transitioned from being a dental assistant with aspirations of becoming a dentist to a passionate tester thriving in the dynamic realm of software quality assurance.

Discovering My Passion for Testing

Ever since high school, my career aspirations were focused on dentistry. I pursued an associate degree as a dental assistant and gained valuable experience working in general dentistry for two years after moving to the United States. However, upon returning to Ukraine, I had a change of heart regarding my career path.

The Shift to IT and Quality Assurance

Intrigued by programming and the vast possibilities within the IT field, I explored various IT professions. The role of a tester immediately caught my attention due to its alignment with my interests and personality traits. Testing demanded the qualities I admired in people and required attention to detail, perseverance, and meticulousness—characteristics I identified with.

Motivated to switch careers, I undertook a manual testing course and diligently submitted my CV for intern tester positions. The more I delved into the world of testing, the more convinced I became that this was my true calling, despite the immense responsibility and challenges the role posed.

With eagerness and dedication, I began my journey in IT after landing my first testing job. The initial excitement evolved into a deep-seated passion for testing and a desire to continuously develop my skills and expertise in the field. The joy I found in my work was unparalleled, and I felt incredibly fortunate to be a part of an amazing team and engaging projects.

Embracing a perpetual student mindset, I cherished interactions with fellow team members, gaining new insights and knowledge every day. This desire to grow and learn propelled me forward, pushing me to keep pace with a fast-evolving world that constantly presents exciting challenges.

Living in Norway and working remotely provided a unique perspective, allowing for a fulfilling work-life balance. The flexibility of remote work complemented my love for travel, igniting a passion to explore new countries and cultures while excelling in my career.
